icebreaker

After more than a month's silence, finally... an update! (Long story about broken PCs and faulty internet connection; thank God for rentals).

2006 Bar examinees. These people are but a few steps away from the fulfillment of their dreams. I am green with envy.

Last testing date for UST Law, Class 2011, is on April 13 next year.

I've waited too long; now fear and doubts consume me. Can I still make it while working? I'd hate it if it comes to the point that I have to give up one for the other.

Watch Deal or No Deal tonight, 7:30 pm ABS-CBN! You might see someone familiar

Sure enough, there he was, an old friend. The man that appeared on TV was a far cry from the boy I used to know, but hearing the voice, not to mention the side comments - HA! No doubt, si Achi nga ito!

(Yung slurpee ko!)

Milenyo. It was a strange kind of excitement, the wind touching your face and mussing your hair. Coupled with rain, what was usually invisible seemed almost tangible. But feeling the glass windows rattle under such violence gave warning to maintain distance; you can't tell what the wind can do.

I finally decided to leave the office during mid-afternoon. What a sight! Somehow seeing the same scene from television makes it seem less serious than when the damage is actually there, laid in front of you. I've never seen so many uprooted trees in my life - even the largest, and supposedly the mightiest, of them have fallen under Milenyo's force.

(Which brings to mind a thought: We shouldn't let ourselves appear big and strong without the roots to back it up. Being planted firmly is vital when strong winds come our way. Then again, falling wouldn't matter so much if I wasn't so proud.)

On a lighter note: After all my years as a USTudent, I finally found myself wading through flood waters at Espana Boulevard. What can I say... there's always a first time

Toothless tigers? Not! And we are the champions! That night I strolled along the school grounds after work. My heart swelled with quiet pride when I came across a procession of students on cars, blowing horns and yelling at the top of their lungs. It rained, but nobody seemed to care. This was a celebration.

It was quite amusing the next day when my supervisor came up from behind me and cheered: Go USTe! Go USTe! Go, go, go USTe!

He is from Ateneo

Room 101, Main Building played host to the Office for Student Admissions (OFAD) in the past four years. It bore witness to friendships I made and lessons learned during the later part of my college days. Even now, my memories from that room are fondly remembered.

With the new rectorship looming, a series of changes in the university are also pending. These include OFAD's relocation to the recently built Student Center (in front of the library), not to mention a new management.

Total wipeout, I thought sardonically when I heard the news. I've nothing against these changes; who knows, they could be for the better. It's just rather sad, if I ever have to return, and no longer see the familiar faces doing things you used to take part of. It's like coming home to an empty house.

It was good while it lasted, though.

November again. I think it's the parols that did it. Now dotting the intersection of Osmena Highway and Buendia, their bright lights resurrected what you called "a wonderful night" many years ago. I wonder if you still remember.

Hope can be strangely melancholy sometimes.
